Advanced Agentic AI Models—Writer Palmyra X5 and X4—Are Now Available on Amazon Bedrock

AWS is announcing that the Writer Palmyra X5 and X4 models—two advanced, purpose-built models for enhancing agentic implementations—are now available in Amazon Bedrock as a fully managed, serverless offering. As the first major cloud provider to deliver fully managed models from Writer, AWS persists in its commitment to delivering the most advanced models and tools needed to confidently build and deploy generative AI (GenAI) models, according to the company.

The Writer Palmyra models balance advanced reasoning capabilities with enterprise-grade reliability, enabling organizations to achieve superior performance on complex agentic workflows, according to AWS.

Palmyra X5 is Writer’s most advanced model, designed for creating and scaling AI agents with industry-leading speed and efficiency on context windows up to 1 million tokens. Consisting of a unique transformer architecture and hybrid attention mechanisms, Palmyra X5 offers the fast inference and expanded memory necessary for scaling AI agents.

The Palmyra X4 model is engineered to deliver unmatched performance on complex tasks and agentic workflows, combining a 128K token context window with a range of advanced capabilities, such as:

  • Advanced reasoning
  • Tool calling
  • Large language model (LLM) delegation
  • Built-in retrieval-augmented generation (RAG)
  • Code generation
  • Structured outputs
  • Multi-modality
  • Multilingual support

Palmyra X4 utilizes enterprise-specific tools to broaden what developers can do as they build their apps and agents, from enabling them to update systems, perform transactions, send emails, and more.

Fundamentally, these models’ capacity for adaptive thinking makes them excel at complex problem-solving tasks and advanced decision-making processes. Its support for multi-step tool-calling, paired with its enterprise-grade reliability for consistent, accurate results, enables the Palmyra models’ multi-faceted, effective application across intricate workflows.

“Using the expansive context capabilities of these models, developers can build more sophisticated applications and agents that can process extensive documents, perform complex multistep reasoning, and handle sophisticated agentic workflows,” explained Danilo Poccia, chief evangelist (EMEA) at AWS.

Some use cases for the Palmyra models include:

  • Financial services: Deal transaction support, 10-Q, 10-K, and earnings transcript highlights, fund and market research, and personalized client outreach at scale
  • Healthcare and life science: Solutions for member acquisition and onboarding, appeals and grievances, case and utilization management, employer request for proposal (RFP) response, commercial apps, medical affairs, R&D, and clinical trials
  • Retail and consumer goods: Product description creation and variation, performance analysis, SEO updates, brand and compliance reviews, automated campaign workflows, and RFP analysis and response
  • Technology: Personalized and account-based marketing, content creation, campaign workflow automation, account preparation and research, knowledge support, job briefs and candidate reports, and RFP responses

Both the Writer Palmyra X5 and X4 models are now available in Amazon Bedrock in the U.S. West (Oregon) AWS Region with cross-Region inference. The models support English, Spanish, French, German, Chinese, and several other languages.
