Anthropic’s Claude Models Achieve FedRAMP and DoD Authorization in Amazon Bedrock

Anthropic is announcing that select Claude models are now approved for use in FedRAMP High and DoD Impact Level 4 and 5 workloads through Amazon Bedrock in AWS GovCloud (U.S.) regions. With this announcement, organizations executing defense, intelligence, and sensitive civilian operations can leverage Claude’s advanced AI capabilities while meeting the government’s strict compliance and security mandates.

Claude’s approval for use in Amazon Bedrock for workloads requiring FedRAMP and DoD authorization is a substantial feat, as DoD Impact Level 4, 5, and FedRAMP High authorizations are among the highest levels of cloud security certification. Now, government customers can leverage some of the most advanced AI systems through familiar AWS APIs and management tools.

“Our goal is to enable commercial availability of Claude models across every region where public sector customers operate, meeting the security accreditations their mission-critical workloads require,” noted a spokesperson from Anthropic. “Claude on Amazon Bedrock provides a fully managed service that eliminates infrastructure complexity while maintaining required security controls.”

Federal entities can now leverage Claude 3.5 Sonnet v1 and Claude 3 Haiku, in conjunction with various Amazon Bedrock capabilities such as Amazon Bedrock Agents, Guardrails, Knowledge Bases, and Model Evaluation. Armed with Anthropic’s Claude models, federal organizations can automate multistep tasks, implement customized safeguards, customize applications, and select the best suited models, according to the company. Additionally, these agencies can:

  • Deploy frontier AI models designed for complex document analysis and intelligence synthesis within a secure environment
  • Construct AI agents purpose-built for processing controlled, unclassified information
  • Utilize Claude’s advanced intelligence and 200k token context window for analyzing large datasets

Anthropic hints at the potential for other Claude models to be made available in the future, such as the Claude 3.7 Sonnet and Claude 4 models.
