Microsoft Brings OpenAI’s o3 and o4-mini to Microsoft Azure OpenAI Service and GitHub

Microsoft is announcing that OpenAI’s latest models—o3 and o4-mini—are now available on Microsoft Azure OpenAI Service in Azure AI Foundry and GitHub. With this availability, Microsoft expands access to two models that demonstrate remarkable enhancements across quality, safety, and performance, pushing what AI can achieve, according to the company.

OpenAI’s o3 and o4-mini models transcend the capabilities of its predecessors, offering a variety of new possibilities for Microsoft customers. Some benefits include:

  • Multiple API support, with availability in Responses API and Chat Completions API, enabling seamless integration with multiple tools and enhanced transparency for model reasoning
  • Reasoning summary in the Responses API, offering more insights about the models’ thinking processes, increasing explainability
  • Enhanced multimodality with enhanced vision analysis capabilities in o3 and new vision support in o4-mini, expanding their reasoning capabilities for processing and analyzing visual data
  • Full tools support, including parallel tool calling, which enables customers to build advanced agentic solutions

In addition to o3 and o4-mini’s availability, Microsoft has unveiled three new audio models now available for deployment in East U.S. 2 on Azure AI Foundry. These models, GPT-4o-Transcribe and GPT-4o-Mini-Transcribe, are powerful, customizable speech-to-text models capable of understanding detailed instructions on speech characteristics.
