Microsoft’s Azure AI Foundry Models and Security Copilot Achieve ISO/IEC 42001 Certification

Microsoft is announcing that its Azure AI Foundry Models and Microsoft Security Copilot have achieved ISO/IEC 42001:2023 certification, a globally recognized standard for Artificial Intelligence Management Systems (AIMS). With this certification, Microsoft cements its commitment toward responsible, secure AI, emphasizing the importance of transparency as AI continues to spread across every facet of business.

ISO/IEC 42001 is a framework for enforcing a broad range of requirements for responsible AI, from risk management and bias mitigation to transparency, human oversight, and organizational accountability. Customers using Microsoft’s Azure AI Foundry Models—which include Azure OpenAI models—and Microsoft Security Copilot, having met ISO/IEC’s stringent requirements, are assured that Microsoft’s solutions feature robust governance, risk management, and compliance practices, according to the company.

“Microsoft’s foundation in security and data privacy and our investments in operational resilience and responsible AI shows our dedication to earning and preserving trust at every layer,” said Molly Bostic, partner group program manager, Microsoft Cloud + AI. “Azure is engineered for trust, powering innovation on a secure, resilient, and transparent foundation that gives customers the confidence to scale AI responsibly, navigate evolving compliance needs, and stay in control of their data and operations.”

With this certification, Microsoft enables its customers to:

  • Accelerate their AI compliance journeys by utilizing certified AI services and inheriting governance controls aligned with emerging regulations
  • Build trust with their users, partners, and regulators via transparent, auditable governance
  • Gain transparency into the ways Microsoft manages AI risks and governs responsible AI, increasing user confidence

“ISO/IEC 42001:2023 joins Microsoft’s extensive portfolio of compliance certifications, reflecting our dedication to operational rigor and transparency, helping customers build responsibly on a cloud platform designed for trust,” said Bostic. “From a healthcare organization striving for fairness to a financial institution overseeing AI risk, or a government agency advancing ethical AI practices, Microsoft’s certifications enable the adoption of AI at scale while aligning compliance with evolving global standards for security, privacy, and responsible AI governance.”
