OpenAI Debuts GPT-6 Sol and GPT-6 Luna to Bring Frontier Intelligence Into Work
OpenAI is introducing GPT-6 Sol and GPT-6 Luna, providing faster, more affordable models that bring the advances behind GPT-6 Astra to everyday work.
Trained with similar methods as Astra, Sol and Luna bring its advances in professional work, factuality, coding and computer use to more everyday tasks and applications at scale, according to OpenAI.
Improvements in caching and inference let OpenAI serve these models at lower cost, and they’re passing those savings directly on to users and customers.
Other features and capabilities include:
- GPT-6 Sol is built for complex work you do regularly, especially coding: building features, reviewing code changes, tracking down bugs, or analyzing data.
- GPT-6 Luna is OpenAI’s most efficient model, designed for high-volume tasks with a clear goal, including summarizing documents, extracting information, or answering quick questions.
Additionally, Sol and Luna bring forward Astra’s advances in alignment alongside its capabilities. In OpenAI’s alignment evaluations, both Sol and Luna show improvements over their GPT-5.6 counterparts, including lower rates of misleading claims about their coding work, the company said. These evaluations deliberately test challenging situations and do not measure failure rates in typical use.
GPT-6 Sol and GPT-6 Luna are available in ChatGPT Work and Codex starting now for all Plus, Pro, Business, Enterprise, and Edu users. Free and Go users can access GPT-6 Luna in the desktop app.
