The Anthropic Economic Advisory Council Offers Expertise Regarding AI’s Impact on the Job Market and Global Economy
Cultivated to address the economic implications of AI development and deployment, Anthropic has just announced the formation of the Anthropic Economic Advisory Council. This council—consisting of an extensive group of distinguished economists—will serve to guide Anthropic as it develops its AI models, offering expertise regarding the impact of AI on labor markets, economic growth, and broader socioeconomic systems.
It is undoubted that the development of advanced AI models has significantly shifted the way the modern workforce operates. Though ideally promising to make manual, tedious workflows more manageable, many fear that the pervasiveness and efficacy of AI will replace human workers.
The Anthropic Economic Advisory Council brings a collective of distinguished voices to Anthropic’s developmental process, delivering valuable insight into both the opportunities and challenges facing the modern workforce. The council’s advisory will further serve the research agenda for the Anthropic Economic Index, an initiative that brings a clearer picture on how AI will continue to impact the labor market and global economy over time.
On the council sits a variety of experts, each offering extensive expertise from the highest levels of government and world-leading research institutions, according to Anthropic. Some members include Dr. Tyler Cowen, Holbert L. Harris Chair of Economics at George Mason University and chairman and faculty director of the Mercatus Center at George Mason University; Dr. Oeindrila Dube, Philip K. Pearson Professor of Global Conflict Studies at the University of Chicago; and Dr. John Horton, associate professor at the MIT Sloan School of Management and a faculty research fellow at the NBER.
