12 Days of OpenAI Continues with ChatGPT Apple Integration
Continuing the momentum of the 12 Days of OpenAI—where for 12 days of December, the company will launch new product innovations for the AI space—OpenAI unveiled and the integration of ChatGPT in Apple Intelligence.
On Day 5 of 12 Days of OpenAI, OpenAI announced the release of its ChatGPT integration in iOS for iPhone, iPad, and Mac OS. This integration aims to make ChatGPT “as frictionless and easy to use everywhere,” noted Sam Altman, CEO of OpenAI, and reflects OpenAI’s investment into the Apple space.
Apple device users will now be able to invoke ChatGPT directly from the operating system through Apple Intelligence, including within Siri, Writing Tools, and Camera Control. Once Apple Intelligence is enabled, users have access to the ChatGPT extension and can begin creating with ChatGPT within Apple devices.
The Siri integration enables users to ask questions of Siri that directly invoke ChatGPT (i.e., “Siri, can you ask ChatGPT to organize a Christmas party?”) or will elevate a query to ChatGPT if deemed appropriate. In the latter scenario, Apple offers an option that requests confirmation on behalf of the user to approve of ChatGPT usage and will always denote when it is “working with ChatGPT,” increasing transparency.
