IBM MAS 9.1 Augments Asset Lifecycle Management with AI-Powered Efficiency and Ease
IBM is announcing the general availability of version 9.1 of the Maximo Application Suite (MAS), a unified asset and facilities lifecycle management solution that streamlines the maintenance, inspection, and reliability of critical equipment and infrastructure through generative AI (GenAI), advanced analytics, and Internet of Things (IoT). This update offers an array of features designed to support the AI-enabled asset lifecycle, driving efficiency and operational growth end-to-end.
MAS now offers Maximo Assistant, an embedded AI capability that expands beyond simple convenience, according to IBM. Maximo Assistant transforms asset management with:
- Condition-based maintenance that eliminates rudimentary, calendar-driven maintenance schedules with real-time insights into asset conditions, enabling teams to service equipment exactly when it’s needed, increasing asset lifespan and improving maintenance resource management
- Intelligent Work Order Management that automatically suggests accurate problem codes based on descriptions, making it easier to identify trends and take data-driven action—without requiring data expertise—now expanded across asset types, maintenance history, and more
- Accelerated failure mode analysis through access to an extensive repository of historical and operational data, enabling the assistant to rapidly generate actionable insights and drive proactive maintenance strategies
- AI-enhanced visual inspections with Maximo’s Visual Prompting, allowing teams to highlight specific image components—such as a component in a production line—and the AI will learn to isolate and analyze it
“The future of asset management is assistive, embedded, and continuously evolving. Maximo’s next-generation AI assistant is being designed to integrate naturally into your workflow—understanding your operations, anticipating needs, and enhancing decision-making without requiring complex queries or disruptive interfaces,” said Michael Dawson, principal product manager, product leader for AI, ALM Software, IBM. “It’s more than a tool; it’s a trusted resource. By autonomously detecting recurring issues and initiating corrective actions, it frees your team to focus on what matters most: strategic, high-impact work.”
In addition to Maximo Assistant, MAS 9.1 offers:
- Maximo Asset Investment Planning (AIP) which enables users to generate and compare multiple scenarios for investment in their assets based on their business priorities, paired with rapid weighted analysis and multi-objective optimization to balance cost, risk, and performance
- Maximo Real Estate and Facilities allows users to optimize how they use their workspaces, as well as facility condition assessments to identify risks and prioritize investments and repairs, and capital planning for cost-efficient project management
“The next generation of AI innovation is already here. AI agents, a more autonomous type of generative AI, are playing a larger role in asset management,” said Kendra DeKeyrel, VP of asset lifecycle management product and engineering, IBM. “When it comes to asset lifecycle management, embedding these capabilities to complement human expertise will become essential to drive speedy innovation. We intend to continue innovating and building an even more comprehensive solution to help organizations reach more efficient and sustainable operations.”
