Plotly Reimagines Data Science Workflows with AI-Assisted Development

Plotly, a leading provider of open source graphing libraries and enterprise-grade analytics solutions, is unveiling Dash Enterprise (DE) 5.6, the latest iteration of its Data App Platform for Python that enables users to more easily build data apps with Plotly AI. With DE 5.6, Plotly forwards a “Build with AI” sentiment by enhancing development processes’ efficiency and efficacy with AI.

“Dash Enterprise 5.6 introduces Plotly AI, enabling natural language data analysis and visualization with auto-generated Python code," said Jim McIntosh, Plotly CEO. "Enhanced App Studio enables users of all skill levels to build and deploy data applications with existing data sources. This release advances our mission to make Dash's capabilities accessible to everyone.”

This release emphasizes the seamless cooperation of Plotly AI and Plotly App Studio, allowing data scientists and data AI teams to more efficiently create custom data applications tailored to specific industry use cases, enhancing their overall productivity. Offering a new chat-based interface in Plotly App Studio, users can more easily transform insights into shareable, interactive DE applications.

Designed specifically with data scientists’ needs at the forefront, DE 5.6’s latest AI capabilities allow them to more intelligently and quickly build data applications whose outputs they can trust.

“Since we're serving this group of data scientists and data AI teams, we were looking for a way to help them build these data applications faster and better in a way they…could rely on what gets generated,” said Domenic Ravita, VP of marketing for Plotly. “Our intent with Plotly AI with this release is to bring that experience of working with an LLM into the workflow of creating a data application within Plotly Dash Enterprise in a way that it could be trusted, but also non-intrusive… [meaning, it] doesn't create extra work for the data scientist.”

To deliver this level of trust and reliability, Plotly AI builds off of Plotly’s extensive context as an open source solution, as well as its AI capabilities being powered by OpenAI, offering “the necessary infrastructure for you as a data science team to build these apps and not have to worry about the rest,” such as building custom components to deliver context about a particular task, explained Ravita.

DE 5.6 also offers a variety of other new capabilities, including:

  • Data Explorer Mode in AppStudio: Accelerates insights by enabling users to create charts directly within their analysis workflow
  • SQL and Control Cells in AppStudio: Delivers easy-to-use tools for SQL authoring and Dash control creation to ensure frictionless app development
  • Simple Application Embedding in AppStudio: Apps can be easily integrated into host platforms, driving accessibility
  • VM Stop/Start and Parking: Optimizes resource usage with eased DE instance management for administrators
  • Advanced Monitoring System: Offers real-time observability tools to ensure operation continuity of business-critical apps
