Box Revolutionizes Intelligent Content Management with AI, Enhanced Security, and More

Box, Inc., the leading Intelligent Content Management (ICM) platform, is unveiling a set of transformative AI capabilities that alter the way enterprises manage, innovate with, and derive value from their content. As companies become inundated with vast quantities of unstructured data, Box’s latest releases—Box AI Studio and Box Apps—aim to alleviate the pains and pressures of content management through ease of use, powerful deployment options, and robust security.

The time for AI to transform content management is now, as “we're at the cusp of a real revolution in what we can now do with our content [by] leveraging AI,” said Aaron Levie, co-founder and CEO of Box.

“For the first time ever, businesses of all sizes will be able to realize the full value of their content and leverage the data inside their files to drive innovation, automate processes, and secure their most important information at a fraction of the cost of legacy systems,” Levie continued.

As part of this effort to drive AI-powered ICM, Box AI Studio enables enterprises to create custom, powerful AI agents that supercharge workflows across the organization, according to Box. Building off the success of Box AI—the company’s suite of capabilities that natively integrate advanced AI models into the Box Content Cloud—Box AI Studio creates more room for innovation by allowing enterprises to craft unique, tailored AI agents to meet the specific needs of any enterprise—without coding.

“Imagine an employee; they go to a place that has all their sales and marketing collateral, and they can ask questions of that [data.] But instead of it being a generic AI model or agent that answers the question, it's one that understands the vocabulary of that particular enterprise and the particular policies that they have around different types of topics,” explained Levie. “This is a breakthrough in how you can work with your information with AI.”

Empowering flexible AI agent creation, Box AI Studio offers the following capabilities:

  • Create, test, and deploy Box AI agents designed to boost the efficacy and efficiency of a variety of enterprise workflows.
  • Seamlessly switch between different AI models with a simple drop-down toggle, bringing extensive flexibility in how agents address different use cases.
  • Develop custom prompts that drive how AI agents adapt to unique tasks or departments.
  • Track and analyze model performance, enabling enterprises to make data-driven decisions about the efficacy of different models for different needs.
  • Set permissions and access controls to enhance overall security in who can use and customize AI agents.
  • Easily integrate Box AI Studio into existing tech stacks and workflows without causing interruptions to service.

In addition to Box AI Studio, Box Apps delivers a no-code strategy for creating purpose-built ICM applications with ease. These applications can deliver powerful dashboards, tailored content views, integrated workflow automations, AI-powered metadata extraction, and more—at scale. Box Apps can be applied to a wide variety of industries, from creating intelligent policy apps for HR teams to creating contract apps for legal teams, empowering content-centric business process automation centered around accessibility.

Box Apps “is extremely useful for companies that already have their content in Box or maybe want to put their content in Box…[It’s] about giving our customers more functionality and more capabilities that they can use our platform for,” said Levie.

Outside of the realms of Box AI Studio and Box Apps, Box is announcing significant security and compliance enhancements as well as the introduction of a new customer plan, Enterprise Advanced.

Box’s new suite of advanced data security and compliance features introduces Box Archive, a solution for streamlining long-term content preservation while adhering to regulatory and compliance standards. Box Archive can ensure controlled access to archived content, enforce controls and policies with end-to-end content lifecycle management, preserve content by ensuring final versions cannot be altered, and more.

Another security and compliance enhancement culminates in new Content Recovery features, improving recovery by:

  • Reducing the time needed for file restoration
  • Offering a visibility dashboard for gaining insight into potential ransomware incidents associated with modified or disposed files
  • Increasing restore precision with customizable data ranges and advanced searching
  • Enabling restoration at scale by streamlining the restoration process
  • Ensuring rapid, automatic sync to Box Drive to limit business disruption

Finally, Box’s new Enterprise Advanced plan centralizes the full power of Box’s ICM platform within a single package. Enterprise Advanced includes the full range of capabilities available within the Enterprise Plus plan, in addition to the new ICM capabilities announced today.

Ultimately, “Box is really at this frontier where we're entering a new era of content management…we're pushing on things like intelligence and workflow automation to power a new set of use cases for our customers,” concluded Levie.
