Glean Debuts Horizontal Agents Capable of Complex Reasoning and Understanding

Glean, the work AI leader, is unveiling its horizontal environment for building, deploying, orchestrating, and governing AI agents in the enterprise, Glean Agents. This launch reflects a leap beyond departmentally isolated agents into proactive, horizontal agents that can act across the organization based on broad data access, according to the company. This announcement is also accompanied by Glean’s new Open Security and Governance Partner Program, an initiative that enables its customers to select from best-of-breed governance models.

Glean Agents leverages universal knowledge—the broadest range of data in the AI industry—to deliver proactive task automation, robust data analysis, and multi-step business process execution. Whether deployed to automate everyday workflows or at scale to revamp business processes, Glean Agents redefine agentic AI with intelligence, simplicity, and security at its core.

“Glean’s vision is to empower everyday users and developers to create domain-specific custom AI assistants and agents that automate everyday work, take action in multi-step workflows, and deliver proactive insights across all applications,” said Arvind Jain, founder and CEO, Glean. “This approach ensures that our AI agents are not only practical but also deeply integrated with enterprise data, providing meaningful and secure solutions to complex workplace challenges.”

To ease agent creation, Glean offers a natural language agent builder that allows users to build agents by simply describing the agent’s desired output. With universal knowledge, each agent is built with access to enterprise structured and unstructured data—including data from applications and databases such as Salesforce, Atlassian, and Databricks—as well as broad world (internet) data, both historical and real time.

Once created, these agents are powered by an LLM-agnostic agentic reasoning engine that transcends traditional retrieval and generation tasks. Glean agents can perform sophisticated automation and decision-making due to its understanding of desired outcomes and complex goals, as well as a library of actions to execute work.

Glean also offers a library of pre-built agents—which is continuously expanding—that allows enterprises to easily discover, use, and share some of the most powerful agents.

“As enterprises look to deploy AI agents at scale, approaches that prioritize broad accessibility and seamless data integration are key to driving productivity and innovation,” said Hayley Sutherland, research manager, IDC. “The introduction of Glean Agents and the addition of universal knowledge has the potential to help organizations explore new ways to automate complex workflows and extract actionable insights. This shift to enable collaboration between agentic AI and humans will fundamentally transform how enterprises operate in the digital age.”

Regarding security and governance, Glean Agents are underpinned by Glean’s active data and AI governance strategy that continuously scans and remediates confidential or potentially sensitive data. When such data is located, admins are flagged that information may have incorrect permissions or is being overshared. Glean offers coverage across 100-plus data sources and configurable dashboards and reports, enabling enterprises to create unique policies that assure their agents can access a wealth of information without introducing risk.

This is further echoed by Glean’s new Open Security and Governance Partner Program, which empowers its customers to select their governance model of choice from Glean’s array of partners—including BigID, Cisco, Palo Alto Networks, Rubrik, and Virtue AI. This initiative helps reveal harmful content and prevent prompt injection attacks and malicious code in customer environments, driving greater security in an increasingly complex landscape.
